“We are privileged to meet the County Sports officials who also double up as federation members and former athletes. At Nock, athletes are at the centre of all our activities. We must support federations and other sports bodies to better the future of our sports as well as Team Kenya,” said Mutuku.

73 CECs, Directors of Sports and county sports officials from 31 counties attended the meeting.

The annual national event focuses on young athletes who might have been overlooked during the big scouting chances in other sports, such as primary school games and secondary school games.

“KYISA has the mandate to identify, nurture and develop sporting talents among the youth and to promote national cohesion among communities from different counties. NOC-K as an umbrella body is mandated to present Team Kenya at a Multi-sports event," Ambrose Kisoi, who is the Makueni Sports Director as well as secretary general at both KYISA and Kenya Basketball Federation.

“The future of Team Kenya lies and depends on the structures set up at county and sub-county levels.”

Eighteen counties participated in the first KYISA games in 2015 in Nanyuki town, Laikipia, but all 47 counties are expected to feature at this year's games in Chuka town.

Among the sports to feature at the games are football, volleyball and basketball with an estimated 2000 youths expected.
