National cricket team ladies' team captain Queentor Aoko Abel is confident that the proposed Nairobi training camp will boost their prowess in readiness for next year's International Cricket Council Women's Africa Qualifiers.

Aoko said the team, currently based in Nakuru, was expected to travel to Nairobi on November 1 but failed to do so due to unavoidable circumstances.

"However, I hope we shall be traveling soon for the camp. It will be great preparation for us as we get ready for next year's big assignment. That's the bigger picture for us," Aoko said, adding that ICC is yet to confirm the dates of the championship.

She added that they are working with the federation to host an international tournament in December in preparation for the same.

She, however, said Ugandans are the only ones who have confirmed participation but she hopes other countries will reach out. Aoko added that they need to address their batting ahead of the task.

"Batting is our major undoing but that's what we are going to look into and hopefully by next year, we shall be on course," she said.

Aoko complained that the ladies' team has been very dormant in terms of internal tournaments and international appearances.

She added that since the Kwibuka tournament back in  June, where they emerged second, they only had one league which ran for approximately one and a half months.

She said if the team is to go far, the federation needs to organise continuous leagues and international tournaments. She took a swipe at the previous management, who she accused of ignoring the ladies team.

"This year has not been busy for us because we have had less field interactions. We are still on a break after our league. If they are to do well as a team, we need to get more exposure through playing many games," Aoko said.

She said they have struggled for the better part of their existence and have been forced to borrow training equipment and grounds.

"We are struggling on the aspect of equipment and we don't even have training grounds. I hope our pleas shall be heard and taken into consideration."
