Former Amira Sailors women's hockey coach Thomas Mucheni broke his silence for the first time after his acrimonious exit from the club.

The youthful tactician said quitting Sailors was the hardest decision he has ever made. He added that change was necessary considering the poor form exhibited by his former charges back then."

Prior to his unceremonious departure, Sailors were winless in four matches, losing once and registering three draws to condemn them to their worst ever start to the season.  The former Greensharks player has since returned to the club as a technical director.

"Human beings make decisions but quitting Sailors was a tough call but nonetheless it was bound to happen. This was not easy and I  had to maximize the long break to make up my mind," Mucheni said.

"There were personal issues I had to deal with but the Greensharks job was enticing and hard to turn down having served the club for a longer time as a player," he added.

Timothy Kamar is currently in charge of the Sailors' men and women's teams but the team's poor run has persisted.

A 2-0 and 1-0 losses to Sliders and Blazers respectively was a blow to Sailors who remain rooted at the foot of the seven-team league with a paltry three points.

Sailors are a team blessed with quality and experienced players but that doesn't reflect in their performance and their poor form is a cause for concern.

"They must rediscover themselves. They have players with work and other life commitments but that is no excuse. They have to get a winning formular. "

With regards to his new role at Greenshrks, Mucheni is faced with the arduous task of reviving the old good days at the club. As the technical director, Mucheni will be crucial in recruitment and the format of the play.

"We want to get back to the good old days but first, we have to improve on our rankings in the league. Being eighth is not good enough for a side that enjoyed success in the past."
