Tapsagoi High School head coach Adams Tuwei wants his handball teams (both boys and girls) to replicate their 2019 performance during the Uasin Gishu County Secondary Schools Sports Association Games this weekend.

Representing Turbo Sub-county, Tapsagoi will compete in both girls' and boys' cadres during the event as the school seeks a double.

In 2019, Tapsagoi were county champions in the boys’ category but failed to shine at the regionals, losing all their matches at the preliminary stages at Tambach Teachers Training College.

Uasin Gishu will host the event at the Moi Girls Eldoret, Kapsoya, Hill School and Uasin Gishu High school playgrounds.

Tuwei said he is optimistic of good results. “We have been training even during the Covid-19 period, especially with the boys and right now they are in good shape. They were in a class of their own during sub-county championships and I expect them to extend the same form to the county level,” he said.

Tapsagoi Boys, who beat Sokyot to qualify to the county, lead Pool 'A' alongside Cheplebach and Arnesen's. Each sub-county produced two teams and their opponents Sokyot are in Pool B alongside Davies School and Lekebet.

“As a school and a coach for both boys and girls, I expect Tapsagoi to qualify for the region and national events. We have set the bar high and we want to be at our best at the county event,” he said.

In other boys’ pool matches, Ngoisa leads Pool 'C' alongside Cheptiret and Chepyakwai while Pool D has Kalyet, Moi University and Cheotegit.

He admitted that his girls' team is not as strong as the boys', having lost in quarters during the 2019 county games. "However, there is a remarkable improvement and I expect them to go this time around."
