Police gun down Thika lads

Kenya Police beat both Thika Rovers and Wazalendo Masters to underline their desire to win the Kenya Hockey Union Easter hockey tournament that started on Friday at the City Park Stadium.

Experienced defender Samwel Oungo's 9th-minute goal was all that the law enforcers needed to steer clear of Thika Rovers. Brian Saina scored for Police against Masters, finding the back of the net in the 25th minute.

Elsewhere, Chui A were held to a goalless draw by University of Nairobi before powering past Wazalendo in their 2-0 win. Richard Njuki opened the scoring in the third minute before Veteran Butali Warriors striker George Mutira doubled the lead in the sixth minute to seal the victory.

Chui B beat Rising Chuis 1-0 courtesy of Francis Kanzi's 25th-minute strike.

In the women's category, Blades B team pulled off an emphatic 2-0 win over UoN ladies. Naomi Kemunto scored the double in the 9th and 19th minutes respectively. Mombasa Sports Club MSC edged Jkuat 1-0 with Mercy Cheptoo the hero.

Blades A and Rising Blades shared spoils in their drab barren draw. The three-day tournament ends on Sunday. The tournament has attracted a total of 18 teams — 10 in the men's cadre, six in the women division and two in the masters category.

Pool A men has Chui A, Wazalendo, Impala, JKUAT and UON. Pool B comprises Chui B, Rising Chui, Kenya Police, Wazalendo Masters and Thika Rovers.

The six-team Ladies pool consists of Blades A and B, Rising Blades, JKUAT, UON and MSC.

Impala veterans and Wazalendo veterans are the only veterans' teams registered for the competition.
