Wasteful Sailors drop points again against Sliders

Sliders are becoming the whipping girls in the league after three straight losses this season.

In Summary

• Sailors failed to live up to the favourites tag and were wasteful in the final third, leaving Mucheni disappointed.

• The season already looks like the title is a three-horse race fight involving Blazers, Scorpions and Spartans with only three matches played up to this point.

Sliders finally claimed their first point of the season following their lacklustre barren draw with Amira Sailors in the Kenya Women's hockey Premier League match at the City Park Stadium.

Sliders are becoming the whipping girls in the league after three straight losses this season. They were demolished by Strathmore Scorpions 3-0, lost by the same scoreline to Blazers, and dished away points against USIU-A Spartans following a 2-0 defeat.

The point will, however,  inject belief into the side that looks short on confidence as the Linet Anyango-coached side hope to get their campaign back on track.

For Sailors, it was two points dropped according to coach Thomas Mucheni who blamed his charges of complacency. Sailors failed to live up to the favourites' tag and were wasteful in the final third, leaving Mucheni disappointed.

"A draw was the worst result I expected. It hurts to see players making the same mistakes that cost us points against Wolverines," Mucheni bitterly revealed.

"The game should have been over by halftime but we failed to convert the many chances that came our way. We had worked on our finishing but the ball could not just go in."

However, all is not lost for Sailors with Mucheni challenging the team to focus on the Strathmore match.

Sailors face a stern test against the students who are the only side to have collected maximum points so far this season. Their 2-0 deserved victory over record champions Blazers on Saturday only underlines the fact that Scorpions could be the team to beat.

The season already looks like the title is a three-horse race fight involving Blazers, Scorpions, and Spartans with only three matches played to date.

"We are back to the drawing board. We need a response against Strathmore who are in good form at the moment. As I have said previously, we need to score goals if we are to compete."
