Fresh from winning the Uganda Scrabble Championships in Jinja, Allan Oyende is now seeking to defend his East and Central Africa and the Pan African titles.

Oyende, who turns out for Stima Club in Nairobi, defeated hosts to add another title to his Jamhuri Day collection a week ago at Strathmore University.

He won the ECASA title in 2019 but the event was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the biting coronavirus pandemic.

“The win in Uganda and the Jamhuri Day has inspired me. My focus is now on ECASA and Pan African events. Winning two big titles within two weekends in a row was not easy,” he said.

Oyende amassed +1830 points to emerge winner after losing only two games out of 18—his biggest range ever.

The Kenya One managed to lead on Day One on Saturday and maintained the lead to be crowned the champion on Day 2.

He said his desire is to maintain the top position when the new scrabble calendar kicks off in January.

He lost two games—one against Scrabble Kenya chairman Bernard Amuke on Saturday and the second game to Ugandan Richard Geria in Game 16.

Other Kenyans, who participated in the event included Edgar Odongkara, who was third behind send placed Geria from Uganda, Amuke who was 16th overall, Joash Manyasa and David Kimani.
