Directorate of Criminal Investigation coach Daniel Bor believes the Nyerere International tournament victory on Thursday could be the beginning of good things to come for the sleuths.

DCI, alongside Nairobi Water and Mombasa's Hakika club, took part in the five-day annual tournament in Tanzania as DCI beat Hakika 3-0 to lift the trophy.

GSU won in the men's category by the same margin against Tanzania's MTC. Kenya's other representatives in the men's cadre were Nairobi Water and Kenya Forest Service.

The clubs used the tournament as part of their build-up for the new season which kicks off mid next month.

DCI finished fourth last season behind champions Kenya Prisons, who won the national league for the third consecutive time;  second-placed KCB and third-placed Kenya Pipeline.

"I am happy for what the girls have achieved. It wasn't easy but the team prevailed. This team has the potential to match top clubs and win the KVF League title. We are only getting started in our quest to becoming a force in the league," Bor said.

"It was nice to see the players compete again after a while. We were trying to gauge the players  as we seek to address our shortcomings.  Fitness-wise, we are on the right track."

DCI who are likely to lose star left attacker Veronica Adhiambo to Kenya Pipeline are looking to sign at least six players to help the club achieve its targets.

According to Bor, left attacking and opposite hitting department as well as middle-blocking needs to be addressed.

"Six quality players would be a big boost to this young squad. We want to continue growing. Adhiambo is moving but nothing has been finalised."
