The hot treasurer's position will still remain vacant despite the early-awaited Kenya Squash and Rackets Association elections set for this evening at the Parklands Sports Club.

The electoral panel of five members led by Martin Adipo has so far received and certified the nominations of only six applicants vying in today's polls.

So far no one had declared interest in the treasurer's positions and only three members out of seven have presented their nominations to serve in the committee.

KSRA was thrown into a leadership vacuum after the Sports Disputes Tribunal ordered the outgoing office to adhere to the association's constitutionby holding an AGM and conducting elections. The polls have, however, been postponed twice owing to breach of the constitution.

Gakuo Ndirangu has offered himself for the top job; Mark Kereri is seeking the vice chairmanship while Yvonne Wangui is eyeing the secretary-general's position.

Eric Hiram, Joram Okwaro and Maureen Macharia will all be seeking three of the seven committee members' seats. Technically, the six are unopposed and will form the KSRA committee.

"The positions which remain vacant will be filled after both the elections and court hearing at the SDT. Our constitution has a provision of co-opting members to vacant positions. This means three or a maximum of five more people can be brought on board through co-option though pending the court's directions," said Wangui who is serving as the secretary to the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of KSRA as appointed by the SDT. Ndirangu has been the chairman of the IMC.

The electoral panel will report to the SDT on November 12 over the election progress. The panel comprises of Adipo (returning officer), Wangila Waliaula,  Hilda Kamau,  Rajesh Karia , Prian Chandaria and Digesh Unia (members).
