Huawei renews Lewa race deal

Safaricom yesterday received Sh13 million from Huawei Technologies in support of this year’s Lewa Marathon tomorrow at the Lewa conservancy.
For the past 10 years, Huawei has invested over US$900,000 into the marathon, becoming one of the top corporate sponsors and contributing significantly to efforts to conserve wildlife, reduce human/wildlife conflict and provide clean water and education to communities in and around Lewa Conservancy.
“We are happy to have partners like Huawei once again coming in a big way to support the Safaricom Marathon. This kind of support has seen the success of the marathon which has grown in scale to transform thousands of lives and communities around the Lewa conservancy,” said Bob Collymore, CEO Safaricom
The marathon which is in its 18th year will see about 1400 runners from 30 different countries around the world participate in the half and full marathons.
“We take corporate responsibility very seriously, not only in our operations and through our world-leading ICT products, but also in contributing to society and protecting the environment. We are happy to see the transformation that the Safaricom marathon has brought to the community,” said Dean Yu, CEO Huawei.
Last year, the marathon raised over Sh62Million, bringing the total amount raised over the years to over Sh500m.
