Vihiga gifted three points from abandoned match with AP
Kenya Federation has awarded Vihiga United three points and two goals from their abandoned match against Administration Police.
The game was abandoned on Saturday last week after AP players and one of their officials attacked referee Michael Sawanga and his assistant George Bwire, with the former having to be rushed to hospital to receive treatment. AP disputed Vihiga’s winning goal claiming it was scored from an offside position but Sawanga stuck to his decision. Vihiga were leading 2-1 by the time the game was abandoned.
In a letter to AP by Frank Ogolla from the FKF’s competition’s department, the uniformed forces side failed to control their players leading to the abandonment of the match in the final minutes.
Vihiga now move to third place with 24 points from 11 matches, same as second-placed Ushuru, who enjoy a healthier goal difference.
Meanwhile, former Western Stima assistant coach Hesbon Nyabinge has been named the new Palos to replace Paul Ogai who parted ways with the National Super League team on Wednesday.
“I am very excited about the prospect of working at Palos Football Club. I am proud to be associated with this great club, we both share the same goals and targets. We are one step away from the Premier League and we must work hand in hand to make this a reality,” said Nyabinge.
“Palos is watched everywhere you go, the fans are passionate and my ambition is to have more success.”
Club Chairman Patrick Imbunga said: “We are very pleased to have recruited one of the most highly regarded football coaches in world of football. I would like to take this opportunity to thank former coach Paul Ogai who did his part at the club during his reigns.”
“Nyabinge has a record of consistent success in his career as a coach and as a player. We look forward to working with him at Palos FC and we are confident he will find all he needs to maintain that high standard o achievement,” noted the chairman.
During his heydays, Nyabinge played for Nzoia FC, Sony, Western Stima and SoNy Sugar. He started his coaching career at Kakamega High School before joining Western Stima as an assistant coach. He has had stints with Homeboyz and West Kenya Sugar.
