Local Sevens series leaders Homeboyz RFC won their maiden series title after winning the fifth leg of the Sevens tournament in Nanyuki.

The deejays beat KCB 12-0 in a closely fought final that saw them bag 24 points to shoot to 106 overall points. The final saw their new signing Tony Owuor pull a nasty injury during the game before being replaced by Bush Mwale. KCB’s Andrew Amonde was the MVP of the tournament after returning straight from his honeymoon.

Their nearest competitors Kenya Harlequin have 86 points, having won the Plate after beating Strathmore Leos. The win at Nanyuki was the deejays’ third win out of the five legs played so far and they are expected to start favourites in Christies Sevens this weekend.

“Consistency worked for us. We set a target with the players to win the first three legs but things did not work according to our plan. We won one leg in Nakuru which intensified competition between us, Harlequin and Impala,” said Homeboyz coach Simon Adongo. “We started preparing for the tournament early enough and the boys knew that it was going to be a long season,” he added.

The deejays have made five final appearances, winning three of them and Adongo remains focused on the last leg in Nairobi. “We are yet to reach our target. We may have won the local Sevens series, but we had another target of winning the last three legs which ends with Christies Sevens,” he said.
