St.John’s Kaloleni of Kilifi County Kenya fought out stiff competition to brilliantly beat GS Gemera of Rwanda 2-1 in an action packed girls’ football match at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium as the Brookside East Africa School Games continued on Day Two yesterday (Sunday). The home

Hellen Ochieng opened the scoring barely seven minutes into the match sending the crowd into a frenzy.

The unsettled Remera quickly tightened their midfield which was failing to connect with strikers but the Kenyan lead lasted to half time. On resumption, Kaloleni capitalised on their unco-ordinated opponents e to net a second through Kenya international Mwanahalima Adam in the 38th minute.

Remera got their consolation goal in the 61st minute through Tardukunda Caliste. Kaloleni meet Alliance of Tanzania and while Gemera face Masaka, ganda on Tuesday.

Despite the victory, Kaloleni coach Joseph Oyoo registered his disappointment after the loss of goalkeeper Margaret Ndzaro through injury.

“The game was very rough and I am very dissapointed by the loss of Margaret in the second half. Fairness should be observed in the game and players should learn that we are brothers and sisters and avoid being rough,” Oyoo said.

He however hinted that they will bag the crown after losing in the semi finals in 2014.

“We have good players and it is our hope to that we will come out of the pools,” He added.

Meanwhile, the teams participating at the ongoing East Africa have been told to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship in order to achieve the games’ purpose of integration.
