Nairobi City Stars players have apparently boycotted training for the second day running, citing unpaid salaries and allowances.

The club is facing serious financial struggles and it is understood that the playing unit has not been paid for over three months.

Club coach John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla confirmed the situation is bad and he could not even guarantee whether players would turn out for training.

“The team is doing badly, players have not reported to training, they have not been paid and they have decided not to turn up. It is a bad situation to us and our ambitions to bounce back to safety are on a serious threat.”

When reached for comment, club chairman Peter Jabuya acknowledged the fact the club has not paid players but played down the duration of pay.

“Yes we are in a serious financial challenge right now, but it is not three months, it is one month or maybe one and a half.

“Players do not want to be patient; I have convened a meeting with them today (Thursday) in order to discuss the way forward. We do not have a sponsor and that makes it hard for the club, and I appeal to sponsors out there to come out and help us.”

Elsewhere Tusker comde into their match against Sofapaka as the favorites but will miss the services of influential captain James Situma, who is suspended after accumulating a total of five yellow cards.

The Paul Nkata’s coached side have scored the most goals in the league, 18, but have also let in twelve, making their defence one of the most vulnerable in the league.

Batoto ba Mungu have found themselves in the unfamiliar position for the first time since they earned promotion back in 2009, and have gone ahead to concede a total of 17 goals already.

Only a few teams have successfully fought the relegation battle after finding themselves in Sofapaka’s current situation. One thing for the David Ouma led side though, is that the team has scored nine goals already.
