Kenya Volleyball Federation have formally bid to host the FIVB women’s U-23 World Championship set for October.

KVF secretary general Ben Juma said they have written to the World governing body, informing them about the country’s willingness to host the annual event.

“It has been a while since we featured in the annual event. However, we hope to make a come back and I believe hosting the event will be a sure way to do so. We hope the feed back will be positive so that we embark on the logistics that comes with staging such event,” said Juma, who was over the weekend confirmed secretary general.

He added, “One of the objective of the federation is to develop youth talent and so I believe the opportunity to host the International event will surely help us expose the promising talent we have to the rest of the world.”

Kenya last featured in the event in 2013 and finished last in the tournament that had attracted 12 nations. China emerged overall winners.Meanwhile, KVF have formed a five-member commission in a bid to fight the use of banned drugs within the fraternity.

The commission, which was announced during the federation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be headed by KVF second vice chairman Kipkemei Sirma. The others in the commission are former national team long-serving libero from Prisons Kenya, KVF fixture secretary Ismail Chege, Stephen Bore and Emily Modena. Former Kenyan International and a beach volleyball player Ednah Rotich becomes the sixth member of the commission by default, by virtue of being the vice president of Africa Zone Five Anti-Doping Agency.
