ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has urged Western residents to vote for Deputy President William Ruto because that is where they have been promised a share of the government.

Mudavadi said on Sunday he and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang'ula negotiated a pre-election pact with Ruto to get a 30 per cent share of Kenya Kwanza government if the alliance wins in August.

He said Luhyas in Azimio-One Kenya have no stake in the coalition.

“When they come here, ask them to show you the agreement they have signed to safeguard your interest as a community other than being promised positions. Ours is in the public domain,” Mudavadi said.

“Wetang'ula, Ruto and I are partners in the coming government. For us to get change, I'm calling on all of you to vote for Ruto, whom we have teamed up with in the coming election."

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa are spearheading the Azimio campaigns in Western.

Azimio has promised Oparanya the Treasury CS post while former Emuhaya MP Kenneth Marende will get the National Assembly Speaker job should the coalition win next month.

Mudavadi, who was at a campaign rally at Shikutse market, Malava, urged Luhyas to reject "government projects" who want to frustrate Kenyans by increasing the cost of living.

The ANC leader lashed out at President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying he has failed to regulate the cost of essential commodities and petroleum prices.

"The President concentrated on handshake and forgot to solve key issues facing Kenyans. Kenyans need to expand their business and be able to put food on the table without straining,” Mudavadi said.

He said Uhuru and Raila should wait for their retirement party from Kenya Kwanza.

"Uhuru promised to take Raila to Mt Kenya to campaign and three years down the line, he hasn't done that. Days are gone and he can't help Raila. He has been championing Azimio but he knows well it's Kenya Kwanza that will carry the day," Mudavadi said.

He said ODM frustrated Kakamega Deputy Governor Philip Kutima by denying him the ticket to run for the governor's seat. He said the party also denied Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi a chance to contest for the Nairobi governor position.

Kakamega ANC governor candidate Cleophas Malala said the dwindling economy needs to be dealt with urgently.

“We are remaining with 35 days to the election but Kenyans are suffering as prices of most essential commodities have risen beyond their reach but the government is doing nothing,” he said.

"Kenyans are tired, prices of unga and petrol must be regulated. I had the opportunity to sign MoU of Kenya Kwanza deal and I can reveal that after Ruto, Mudavadi will rule."

Malala said Kenya Kwanza will form the next government.

Malava MP Malulu Injendi said Mudavadi and Wetang'ula are key leaders people recognise in Luhya nation.

"They did well to team up with Ruto," he said.

Malava parliamentary aspirant Seth Panyako of UDA thanked Mudavadi and Wetang'ula for deciding to work with Ruto.
