Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino on Tuesday pleaded with residents to reelect him so he can complete the projects he has initiated.

Owino said the projects are likely to stall, if he is not reelected.

Some of the incomplete projects include construction of laboratory and library sections for Ndhiwa Kenya Medical Training College and ICT hubs in three out of seven wards in the constituency.

Youths are trained at the ICT centres so they can access employment through digital platforms.

The National Government Constituency Development Fund office has acquired land to construct an agricultural college near Mirogi trading centre, he said.

Owino said the projects will hugely benefit residents once they start operating. He is seeking reelection on the ODM ticket.

“The development master plan comprises projects that will transform the lives of Ndhiwa people. I’m seeking reelection as an MP to ensure we realise the much-needed growth,” he said in Ndhiwa town after he was cleared by the IEBC to vie.

Owino urged his opponents to campaign with decorum, devoid of name-calling.

He is facing fierce competition from former MP Agostino Neto of United Green Movement and independent candidate Micheal Agwanda.

Ndhiwa IEBC returning officer Rebeccah Abwaku said they are expecting to clear five people to vie for the seat. Neto and Agwanda were cleared on Monday.

The constituency has more than 110,000 registered voters.

Owino asked residents to vote for ODM politicians seeking other seats, noting that electing party candidates would boost ODM's strength in the grassroots.

“Elect all ODM party candidates in Ndhiwa because we’re the real foot soldiers of Raila Odinga. Let’s not gamble with Ndhiwa leadership,” he said.

Raila is the Azimio presidential flag bearer.

Ndhiwa ODM party officials Jeremiah Odeny and Helen Ogedi pledged to conduct door-to-door campaigns to ensure huge voter turn out on the Election Day.

“We’re also going to persuade residents to vote for ODM candidates from MCA to governor. Ndhiwa has been an ODM constituency,” Odeny said.
