Police in Teso North subcounty, Busia have urged aspirants vying for various seats to promote peace.

Teso North subcounty police commander David Muange said politics should never be a matter of life and death since Kenya needs peace for development.

Muange said police will not hesitate to take action against aspirants who will go against the law before, during and after the elections.

He spoke on Wednesday when IEBC officials met aspirants in Teso North.

The subcounty police commander said they should be at the forefront in promoting peace.

“We need one another now, aspirants should respect one another. There is no need to cause chaos,” Muange said.

He said so far his office has not received any instability incidents related to the August polls.

“This peaceful environment is what all of us need,” he said.

Last week when the political aspirants met IEBC officials in Amagoro for a briefing, some of the aspirants had called on the police to ensure peace prevails in Teso North.

Teso North DAP-Kenya MP hopeful Lawi Mamai called on his opponents to conduct peaceful campaigns.

He however promised the opponents stiff competition.

Mamai is competing for the MP seat against incumbent Oku Kaunya (ODM), John Imoite (UDA) Cornelius Omuse (Independent),  Samson Owino, and Charles Ramaina (both independent) and Fred Papa (Wiper).
