Police in Eldoret are investigating the circumstances that led to the death UDA MCA nominee for Sambirir ward in Elgeyo Marakwet county.

 Mark Bowen, popularly known as Sawachan, died in hospital in Eldoret  on Saturday morning.

This was hours after he was found lying unconscious along the Eldoret-Uganda road near the town's Central Bank branch.

A Good Samaritan took Bowen to hospital on Friday night.

His legs were broken and he had head injuries. It is not clear how he sustained the injuries.

Marakwet West MP William Kisang, a cousin of Bowen, said they have reported the matter to the police.

Uasin Gishu police boss Ayub Gitonga said investigations are going on.

“The deceased had injuries to his legs and head but all his items were found intact,” Kisang said.

He urged residents to remain calm as the matter is investigated.

Some unconfirmed reports indicate he may have been knocked down while on a motorcycle.

“We are saddened by the loss and pray that God gives the family strength to bear the loss,” Kisang said.

Senator Kipchumba Murkomen was among those who visited the family to condole with them.

“We have lost such a promising leader,” the senator said.

Murkomen said Bowen was a committed and active member of UDA and was known to always help the needy.

Deputy President William Ruto sent a message of condolence to the family.

Bowen's body was taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
