• Eleven-year-old girl commits suicide by hanging. Motive not established.
Three teenagers from the same family and riding on a motorcycle were struck and killed by a speeding motorist along the Mai Mahiu-Narok road.
During the Wednesday night crash near Mafuta Taa Centre, the motorist fled the scene as police deplored the increasing cases of boda boda rider deaths.
The deaths brought to 14 the number of motorcycle operators who have been killed in Naivasha since the year began.
Police blame careless driving.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru said the bodies had been identified and taken to a private mortuary in Mai Mahiu town as police search for the missing driver.
“We had an accident where three youths riding on a motorcycle were killed in a hit-and-run accident and we are seeking the driver involved,” he said.
The police boss said there are plans to retrain motorcycle operators on road safety to curb the rising cases of accidents.
Meanwhile, residents of Naivasha are distraught that an 11-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging.
The motive was not immediately established. There was no suicide note and police said she did not report any problems to her family and friends.
The body of the Class 5 student at Milimani Primary School was found hanging in the family’s house in Kayole estate on Wednesday evening, hours after she left school.
Emotions ran high as relatives and friends recalled the girl as quiet and respectful.
Her parents who were not in when the death occurred were speechless as police collected the body and took it to Naivasha Subcounty Hospital mortuary.
Police said an inquest file had been opened and deplored increasing suicides, mostly by young male adults.
