A row is brewing between the national and Laikipia governments over the ownership of three acres in Nanyuki town.

On Friday, Laikipia East deputy county commissioner Patrick Muli had to intervene to stop demolition of a perimeter wall that had been erected around the property situated opposite Lions Court hotel.

He said the Infrastructure and Lands department at the county government was angered after the Kenya National Highways Authority constructed a wall without its approval.

“We have directed that the demolition of the perimeter wall stop immediately and any other construction from both parties to halt until a multi-sectoral committee is set up to address the stalemate,” Muli said.

No one has explained how Kenha acquired part of the land that was initially under the Ministry of Public Works and set up a building in 2018.

Muli said a high-level committee comprising officers from the national government, the county government and the National Land Commission will be formed to resolve the stalemate and come up with a way forward.

The land has government offices and several residentials.
