Murang’a MPs allied to UDA have castigated President Uhuru Kenyatta for directing his frustrations to his deputy William Ruto and asking him to resign.

On Labour Day, the President accused Ruto of being an absentee leader who has instead been focusing on inciting the public against his government, saying he should have resigned to allow him to pick another deputy who would help him.

But the MPs said it is dishonest of the President to make the accusations when he is the one that chased Ruto out of government.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro said they campaigned for the Uhuruto duo but once it was voted in, they were sidelined.

“We have respected him even after all the persecutions. What we do is tell him the truth. If you say we should not ask you questions of the challenges facing Kenyans and the high cost of living publicly, how do we find you in private?” he asked.

“How do we tell you the challenges Kenyans are facing? You saw it fit to work with Raila. Please carry your burden. We will continue to respect you and tell you the truth.”

Ndindi said since the handshake things changed for the worse, citing the high cost of fuel that has caused an uproar.

Other governments, he said, have been supporting their citizenry better even though the high cost of living is global.

“The people you have partnered with are looting the country dry. Your people are doing business with the government at the expense of Kenyans,” he said.

“The people controlling the dairy sector, gas processing companies and those incriminated in the Kemsa scandal are all people near you.”

The MP said Kenyans should be allowed to choose a president who will solve their burdens.

Kenyans, he said, want a president who comes from a humble background and has the experience of hardships and the challenges faced by Kenyans.

Ndindi said they will continue to respect Uhuru after his retirement.

“Even after your project fails, we will not revenge the things you have done against us,” he said.

Alice Wahome said Uhuru has mismanaged the government and allowed cartels to destroy the economy.

She accused him of casting away leaders who would have supported him in managing the country.

Ruto, she said, is the President’s first helper but he decided to work with somebody else.

“I worry when I see the President referring to Raila as his excellency and undermining the presidency. When he now cries foul and asks Ruto to resign, let him remember things like the BBI were not the undertakings of the Jubilee government but his agenda and that of Raila,” the Kandara MP said.

She said Uhuru’s recent actions are a clear indication that he is trying to succeed himself through Raila who she said will be reduced to his puppet.

Wahome said UDA will garner over 10 million votes and clinch the majority of the seats in the Mt Kenya region.

“I am sure that Ruto’s votes will supersede Uhuru’s votes in 2017 but we have no vendetta. Every Kenyan has a right to vote for their candidate of choice. His time is up and we wish him well in retirement,” she said.

Maragua MP Mary Waithera said though they respect Uhuru, his position is a unifying seat that compels him to love all Kenyans equally.

Waithera said their contention with the President is his choice of the presidential candidate saying he chose to work with Raila and should therefore not direct his anger to Ruto.

She said his recent outbursts indicate that he may be sensing defeat.

The trio was speaking at Thika Greens hotel during a meeting with UDA aspirants.
