The New Democrats Deputy leader Jimmy Kibaki will not deputise Nyeri governor candidate Thuo Mathenge, as previously rumoured.

Jimmy said he had consulted widely and will battle it out with Ephraim Maina for the senate seat.

He said he will soon unveil his campaign team and details about his senator candidature.

“I will contest on the TND ticket,” Jimmy said.

He was confident his party will win the majority of the seats across the Mt Kenya region.

The party has 14 MCAs and one MP.

He spoke last Friday at Bantu Africa when he addressed various aspirants.

About a month ago, during the aspirants' meeting,  Jimmy was pressed to join politics.

He however said, he would do so after consulting his father who has been his adviser and mentor.

“A wise man always consults his advisers and close friends. I also have a boss and he will be the first one I consult,” he said.

Others in the senate race are Former MP Kabando Wa Kabando, Wambugu Nyamu, Dan Wamahiu, Wahome Wamatangi and Priscilla Nyokabi among others.

Speaking to Star on Monday, Mathenge said Jimmy will contest for the senate seat.

He said Jimmy has served the party diligently and should be accorded a chance to serve the people.

“We wish him all the best and we will campaign for him.”

He described Jimmy as a sober aspirant who has the blessings of retired President Mwai Kibaki saying he would follow the footsteps of his father to liberate his people by improving the economy.

Mathenge said as he popularises his governor bid in Nyeri, he will also sell Jimmy's manifestos.
