Two KCSE candidates in Lamu West are sitting  for their exams at the Mpeketoni subcounty hospital after they gave birth days before the first paper began.

One of the girls, a student at Pangani Coast Arid Secondary School in Witu, gave birth three days ago.

Another student from the Lake Kenyatta Secondary School in Mpeketoni delivered on Sunday, county education director Joshua Kaaga said.

On Tuesday, Kaaga said adequate arrangements had been made to ensure the two girls write their exams in a secluded area at the hospital's maternity wing.

Kaaga said the candidates will sit for their practical exams at the Mpeketoni Boys Secondary School, which is adjacent to the hospital.

“We had prior information about their condition and we made arrangements to help them," Kaaga said.

"We have assigned them an invigilator, a supervisor and a police officer at the maternity wing which is now a special exam centre."

The two girls are part of the 1,828 KCSE candidates sitting for exams in Lamu.

The county has 26 exam centres and other emergency centres.

Meanwhile, KSCE candidates in terror prone areas have been able to proceed with their exams after arrangements were made to ferry their exams by sea.

“We transported the papers by boat and it was timely now they are sitting for their exams like the rest,"Kaaga said.
