For a legit census later this year, the Kenya National Bureau Statistics must be open to the public for them to offer full support to the exercise. This is very important because some regions have vowed not to participate if manual system for enumeration is adopted.

It is, therefore, vital for the government to come out and give a clarity on the alleged use of biometric system, which is claimed to have been tendered to the controversial firm Idemia.

Controversial because it supplied the IEBC with biometric kits in the 2017 General Election and was accused by NASA of helping rig the election.

KNBS ought to state clearly why only Sh3.3 billion is set for the purchase and operation of mobile tablet devices yet Sh18.5 billion has been allocated for the census.
