The rains are here and planting has began in most parts of the country.
However,the subsidised fertiliser has not reached every farmer. While the government's intention to get subsidized fertiliser to farmers was well intended, its implementation hasn't been smooth.
In some areas, farmers complain of not getting the fertiliser and in others, there are complaints of the same ending up in private shops and sold at a higher price. As a country that is facing one of the worst droughts and high cost of food prices, we cannot fold our hands and sit pretty.
The way out is for every Kenyan to join hands and work towards achieving food security.
For this to happen, farmers on their part need to plant with or without fertiliser because there is a good chance they will still have access to the fertiliser. The government,too, needs to move with speed to ensure the farmers get the second round of the promised subsidised fertiliser.
Let us all take part in building a stronger and prosperous nation by constructive contribution on our part.
We cannot afford to sit around and wait for a better Kenya, if we don't actively participate to making the country great.
