VIOLENCE

It's only right to arrest business, property invaders

The attack on Northlands farm has the potential to cause a class war.

In Summary
  • The attack on the Kenyatta family Northlands farm should not go unpunished because it has the potential to cause a class war
  • The right to private property is perhaps the single most important condition for any society

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has given police chief Japheth Koome 14 days to investigate the financiers, planners and executors of the violence and theft during Azimio weekly protests.

This is the right thing to do because it is unacceptable for the police to be seen as practising double standards. It is also not right that a few people would attack a farm, destroy property and steal sheep without police intervening or arresting the perpetrators.

Illegal land occupation is a major problem in most urban environments across the world. It is even a major concern in developing countries, due to economic disparities between the poor and rich and Kenya is not an exception.

The attack on the Kenyatta family's Northlands farm should not go unpunished because it has the potential to cause a class war.

Economically, an illegal land occupation that Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah has threatened can cause permanent economic losses on either land invaders or landowners, if not both. Zimbabwe is a good example.

The right to private property is perhaps the single most important condition for any society if freedom, including free trade, is to flourish.

It is therefore important that Koome moves with speed to arrest all those who attacked businesses and properties no matter their political affiliations.
