Incitement during this electioneering period risks plunging Kenyans into chaos, Bungoma county commissioner Samuel Kimiti has said.

He cautioned politicians and residents against careless talk during their campaigns, saying it was likely to cause division among their supporters.

Kimiti was addressing Mt Elgon residents, where he met other security officers from the region.

Mt Elgon is one of the places that experiences high political temperatures during electioneering periods.

“I have started holding meetings in the nine constituencies to ask residents to maintain peace before, during and after the elections so that no life is lost,” Kimiti said.

He asked politicians seeking elective positions to stick to the law.

“We are remaining with just a few months to pick leaders of our choice. Let’s not be controlled by the politicians,” he said.

Kimiti urged residents to work closely with the security department and report suspicious people within the region.

“I have tasked local administrators to walk from village to village and spread peace messages. Don’t fight with the police because they are only here to maintain law and order,” he said.

Cheptais assistant county commissioner Boaz Koech said he will continue promoting peace in the area.
