CDF Ogolla leaves a legacy of exemplary leadership – DPP Ingonga

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has extended its sympathy to the families, friends, and the entire nation on the untimely passing of CDF General Francis Omondi Ogolla.

Ingonga described CDF Ogolla as a distinguished four-star general who has left behind a legacy of exemplary leadership, unwavering dedication to duty, and a commitment to personal development and professionalism.

"In solidarity with the nation and the Kenya Defence Forces, we mourn the loss of these ten gallant officers and pray for the full recovery of those injured in the tragic incident," Ingonga said. 

"May the departed souls find eternal peace, and may their families find solace and strength during this challenging period." 

Ogolla died after a chopper he was travelling in alongside other officials crashed in Kaben, Marakwet East on Thursday.

The chopper is said to have been carrying 12 people including officers of the rank of General when it went down.

Witnesses said it burst into flames on crashing.

There was only one survivor believed to be a photographer, other officers said.

The area was cordoned off soon after the accident.

President William Ruto announced that the Kenya Air Force has constituted and dispatched an air investigation team, to establish the cause of the air crash that killed CDF Francis Ogolla and nine others.

The Head of State also announced a 3-day national mourning for CDF Francis Ogolla.

"This is a moment of great sadness for myself, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, the Kenya Defence Forces fraternity and the nation at large," he said.

"Our motherland has lost one of her most valiant generals, gallant officers, service men and woman. The demise of General Ogolla is a painful loss to me, and certainly, the sorrow we all feel about his passing is shared by all the people of Kenya, and especially the KDF fraternity."

The President also described Ogolla's death as the demise of a four-star general who has fallen in the course of duty and service to the country.

"I convey my deepest condolences to all families who are grieving this untimely loss and our mourning nation. May the Almighty Lord rest their souls in peace and grant their families fortitude at this time of deep sorrow. I also wish a quick recovery to the two injured soldiers in this accident."
