Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has warned against vandalism of critical infrastructure.

Speaking on Monday in Makueni County, Kindiki said that the government will deal with vandals in the same way that it deals with terrorists.

The CS stated that vandalism was on the same level as economic sabotage and the government would not tolerate the act.

"Those who are engaged in that activity are enemies of Kenya just like terrorists," he said.

Kindiki urged law enforcement authorities to crackdown on the vandalism of the Standard Gauge Railway among other public amenities saying that they will be prosecuted in line with the Protected Areas Act.

"Any person found within the vicinity of a protected facility, including the railway, or critical water reservoirs will be dealt with under the Protected Areas Act. That is the most serious and the most punitive law, it is the law that guards State House," Kindiki noted.

The Protected Areas Act in Kenya, enacted in 1949, serves to prevent unauthorized entry into specific areas that have been declared as protected.

The Act is important for preserving public safety within protected zones and preserving ecologically significant places.

Kindiki made the remarks in Kambu Town, where he had gone to officially install a deputy county commissioner.

Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, on his part, expressed concern over the cases of vandalism urging the residents residing along the SGR to take care of government property.

"Wale watu wanavandalise hii kitu wanaenda kuuza chuma elfu moja na wakimaliza hio wanaingia kwa projects za maji wanaiba chuma za maji na panel za stima," Kilonzo said.

(Those who are vandalising these projects sell the metals for only a thousand shillings, and after that, they enter water projects and steal water pipes and electricity panels)

"Protect our projects, because they are your projects," he urged the residents.
