More rain to continue until January 21 - Met department

Isolated storms and heavy rainfall also likely in South Rift Valley

The Meteorological Department has announced that Kenyans should expect more rainfall in several parts of the country in the coming week. 

In the latest forecast for January 15 to January 21, 2024, the department said parts of the Northwest and Northeast are likely to receive occasional rainfall. 

"Isolated storms and heavy rainfall also likely in the south rift valley, southeast lowlands, central highlands, and south coast," the department said in a statement. 

Further, the weatherman said rainfall will continue in Lake Victoria basin, western Kenya, central and southern rift valley, central highlands including Nairobi city, and the coastal region. 

On Saturday, several roads in the city were rendered impassible following the heavy rainfall in Nairobi and its environs from Friday night to early Saturday.

Some city residents have been compelled to seek shelter elsewhere after Ngong River burst its banks early Saturday morning, flooding several houses in the area.

Langata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalango urged South C residents and those visiting the ward to avoid certain areas. 

"If you are coming to South C kindly avoid the Kewi area, Masjid Noor, The Olesereni Tunnel and the Kongoni area,"he said in an X post. 

Jalango added that there is a team working towards ensuring the draining system is controlled to enable residents continue with their daily activities. 

"Our team is on the ground and we will be advising with further updates on the situation," he added. 

In Bomet County, at least two people have been reported dead in a quarry following heavy rainfall. They were part of the workers at the quarry.
