Cars, bulk fertiliser among products expected at Mombasa Port during this festive season

A total of 18 containers are set to be discharged during the period between December 13 to 24.

The port of Mombasa will receive a total of 37 cargo vessels in the next 11 days as the festive season peaks with car carriers accounting for six vessels.

In a notice, Kenya Ports Authority says container cargo vessels make up the bulk of the vessels to call the port during this festive season.

A total of 18 containers are set to be discharged during the period between December 13 to 24.

Other products expected are palm oil, bulk wheat, bulk fertiliser and steel coils.

Cars are set to arrive at the port on December 14 by Arabian sea vessel, Courageous Ace on December 17, Garnet Ace (December 18), Hoegh Trove (December 18) and Devine Ace (December 23).

Tiger Pioneer carrying the bulk fertiliser is expected to arrive at the port on December 18 while Despina which is delivering bulk wheat is set to dock on December 22.

Two other vessels containing bulk fertiliser were received at the port on December 11 and another one with bulk wheat on the same day.

STI Oxford with gas oil also landed at the port on December 11.

Nave Sectan vessel carrying palm oil will dock on December 14.

ST George, Grampus Ace and Xin Hai Tong all carrying steel products will arrive on December 15, 16 and 23 respectively.

Mombasa Port is the busiest along the East African coastline operating specialized berths for express handling of specified cargo.

It provides direct connectivity to over 80 Ports worldwide.

It is divided into two sections designated for conventional cargo operations comprising nine berths and container handling terminals comprising 11 berths, bringing the total berths at Mombasa to 20. 

The container section is served by two terminals which make up the total container capacity of the Port to 2.2 million TEUs annually. 

The Port has dedicated Berth 3, 9, Mbaraki Wharf, Base Titanium, Shimanzi Oil Terminal and Africa Gas and Oil Limited as specialized terminals for handling Bulk Grains, Bulk Soda Ash, Bulk Clinker and Coal, Titanium, Bulk Liquid and Gas Cargo respectively.
