Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has said he is waiting for directions from Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome on where Brian Mwenda can record a statement.

"This man here is not a fugitive, we are ready and waiting for directions on where he can record a statement," he said.

Sonko added that the team is ready and waiting for confirmation.

On his part, Mwenda insisted that he was innocent of the accusations and that he would present himself if, called upon.

"The DPP has released a statement requesting an investigation to be done by IG. I am a law-abiding citizen and I am not going anywhere. we love the law, any place I will be needed, I'll go," he said.

"For the record, I am not a fugitive," Brian added in a video posted by Mike Sonko on his X account.

Mwenda is alleged to have appeared in court on many occasions, presenting himself as an advocate of the High Court.

In a video that circulated on social media last week, Mwenda was spotted in court when former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga and others appeared before a Makadara court and argued for one of the accused persons.

The Director of Public Prosecution Renson Ingonga through a statement on October 14, directed the IG to investigate on the issue the matter and bring charges against Mwenda.

"Upon receipt of the inquiry, the ODPP shall undertake an independent review of the evidence, guided by the provision of the constitution," he said.

Law Society of Kenya president Eric Theuri also called for the arrest of Brian Mwenda.

Theuri, however, added that the society is not aware of the cases Brian had presented in court before the revelation.

"We wish to correct the misleading information that is out in the public that Brian has won 26 cases, for the short period, it is virtually impossible to have participated in such a huge number of cases," he added.

Theuri added that the society will be changing the registration criteria adding that the data in its system was not compromised.

On October 14,  Mwenda said he appreciates the people who are supporting and praying for him.

"In the fullness of time, I will be able to clear this misunderstanding as I view it to be. I will also be able to prove my innocence," he said.

Mwenda said he will provide the actual context of what is happening with time.
