Refugee found dead at Kakuma after attack

The lifeless body of the unidentified adult man was found with visible injuries at the back of the head.

Detectives are investigating the death of a refugee at the Kakuma camp, in Turkana County.

The refugee was yet to be identified by the time his body was found.

Police said they were informed there was a lifeless body of an unidentified adult man with visible injuries at the back of the head.

The team visited the scene and found the body in the Don Bosco area within the Kakuma Refugee Camp.

Police suspect the victim was hacked to death at the scene.

No arrest has been made over the October 10 incident. Police suspect the man is a Burundi national.

The body was moved to the Lodwar County Referral Hospital morgue for autopsy and identification.

Last month, an Ethiopian refugee was found dead with a stab wound in the camp.

The body of Baricha Abdi Oda, 26, was found in a thicket in Nakwangat village within Lopur ward, police said.

He had been stabbed in the stomach and chest.

The body was dumped in the area while a motorbike he had was missing.

The motive of the attack is yet to be known.

In the same camp, an unknown number of gunmen raided the facility and killed a South Sudanese refugee in an attack.

The deceased was identified as Francis Lado Abraham, 29.

The incident happened at Kalobeyei village 3 within Kakuma refugee camp, police said of the Wednesday, August 30 dawn incident.

Police said they are investigating a murder in the issue and will liaise with their South Sudanese counterparts if it emerges the gang originated there.

Police said they are making several security arrangements to ensure the safety of refugees there.
