At least 10 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel were injured in an accident along Bomet-Narok highway on Saturday evening.

Police and other officials said the personnel are nursing injuries at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet county following the accident.

Bomet Central sub-county police boss Musa Imamai Omar said the accident occurred when the lorry they were traveling in veered off the road and landed in a ditch.

This happened as the driver of the lorry was trying to avoid hitting a pedestrian crossing the highway.

The personnel were attended to by a paramedic traveling in another vehicle before an ambulance arrived and rushed them to the hospital.

Following the incident, motorists plying the Kisii-Narok route were held up for several hours before traffic police managed to clear the snarl-up.

The wrecked lorry was towed to Bomet police station for inspection.

Witnesses said military vehicles were headed towards Narok from Bomet when the incident happened.

The victims are in stable condition in the hospital, officials who had seen them said.

Officials from both police and the military are investigating the accident.

In Bonje area along Nairobi-Mombasa highway, a transit trailer caught fire burning goofs in an incident.

Police said the incident involved a trailer that was carrying electronic goods to Burundi. The driver escaped unhurt, police and witnesses said.

The lorry was coming from Mombasa port when it developed mechanical issues and caught fire, witnesses said.

Police who attended the scene said they are yet to establish the cause of the incident.

A section of locals looted some of the electronic goods before police arrived at the scene to save the situation.

Police say they are investigating the incident and are pursuing those who stole the property.

A team investigating the incident said those caught with the goods could face serious charges including robbery with violence.

The lorry was towed to a local police station as the probe into the Saturday incident goes on, police said.
