Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has appealed to public servants to lead by example and work hard.
Speaking at an interview with Inooro FM, the DP said he leads by example, and “works like a hyena.”
“I beg all of us in this government to work hard. Up our game and not shame ourselves as a community. I lead by example. I work like a hyena. Let Mt Kenya people in public service work like hyenas,” he stated.
Gachagua downplayed reports of divisions in Mt Kenya, stating that the region is stable, peaceful, and united as before.
He asserted that it is the media that is trying to portray an emerging rift among leaders from Mt Kenya.
“I will lead from the front in ensuring that the leadership of the mountain continues holding together and will bring on board every leader from the region,” he said.
Gachagua further said his relationship with President William Ruto is as strong as ever.
“President William Ruto and I are joined at the hip. We talk on a daily basis. My relationship with the President is top-notch. He has mandated me with a great responsibility because he understands my output,” he explained.
He added they will work for Kenyans until the end of their term in office.
On coffee reforms, Gachagua said those who currently buy coffee from Kenya have decided to use their monopoly of power to sabotage the farmer.
“They have blocked the auction so that we can panic and fall for their tricks,” he said.
The DP stated that he would not relent and that he is looking for more markets until the country breaks even.
“I am now heading to Germany to look for the coffee market, and I can assure you that we aren't losing on this one,” he said.
He added that the country is heading to the guaranteed minimum returns phase.
“We are at the final stages of the farmer meeting the final user. The moment we have a deal with the coffee consumer, which is coming soon, the farmer will definitely laugh last with an assurance that they will be guaranteed to earn more money than before,” he explained.
He added that the war on coffee reforms is not a walk in the park.
