Medical doctors from Nyamira have called off their strike following an agreement with the county government.
The deal signed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Wednesday indicates that the county has agreed to honour their demands on promotions.
"That, the county through the Nyamira Public Service Board, commits to confirm all the six doctors on probation within 10 working days from the date of signing this agreement," the agreement reads in part.
The county has also committed to promote 26 doctors from Job Group N to P.
"It shall advertise, shortlist, interview and promote doctors within the competitive Job Groups Q, R and S within five weeks," it states.
Two other doctors are set to be elevated from Job Group M to N within 10 days.
Additionally, the county government has given an undertaking to fast-track the audit of the payroll within 30 days and resume the unsecured check-off credit facilities thereafter.
"In view of the foregoing, the union calls off the industrial action and advises her members to return to work not later than 24 hours after the appendage of signatures," KMPDU said.
It was also agreed that no doctor who stayed out of duty in compliance with the strike notice and during the period negotiations were ongoing shall be victimised.
The Public Service Board will also promote two doctors in the County from Job Group M to N within ten days.
"The County Government commits to fast-track the audit of the payroll within 30 days and resumes unsecured check-off credit facilities thereafter," the bargaining agreement reads.
The agreement was signed by the Union's Nyanza Secretary General Aggrey Orwenyo, County Secretary Jack Magara, Board chair Peter Kereri and Chief Officer Medical Service, Andrew Ongere.
