Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has been appointed as a United Nations adviser on Local Governments.

The governor made the announcement via his X handle, stating that he officially took on this new role on Thursday and expressed his commitment to serving with dedication.

“It is with humility that I accept my appointment as a UN Advisor on Local Governments, promising that I will do my best to promote the ideals and objectives of the UN as a member of the Advisory Group in advancing the cause of local and regional governments,” Nyong’o stated.

Nyong’o was appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and he is expected to contribute to strengthening the engagement of local and regional governments in intergovernmental planning processes.

The governor joins the UN Advisory Board and will play a role in advising the Secretary-General on matters related to local and regional government engagement and action issues.

As an adviser, he will assist Secretary-General Guterres and UN Member States in making informed decisions on crisis recovery measures and in enforcing international agreements on sustainable development, gender equality, social inclusion, and climate action, among other areas.

This comes a week after Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Arts and Sports, Ababu Namwamba was appointed to represent to the youths at the United Nations Global Leadership Council of Generation Unlimited(GenU).
