Kisii Governor Simba Arati has defended his wife May Arati over her presence in his office.

Arati defended his wife saying she was not helping him co-govern the devolved unit.

Instead, he said, she only complements him as his better half and often serves him lunch in the office.

He told off those castigating him on account of her constant presence in his office.

"Those asking why she brings me food to the office, what is your concern, are you planning to do something fishy to me ?," Arati posed on Tuesday during an interview in a morning show.

Most of the callers said they were uncomfortable with Arati's wife being around county offices.

The governor also responded to his administration being listed last in the development expenditure.

Arati said he was only circumspect on how funds from the Treasury were being expended for the benefit of mwananchi.

"Let us be listed last, I have no problem whatsoever, but in the end, the money is safe," he said.

He said he would not allow thieves to prowl on the money.

Arati said he will not be cowed by the flurry of online abuses being heaped on him for refusing to play along with thieves.

"They can continue abusing me but let them know that I will not allow thieves anywhere near public funds," he said.

On the payment of pending bills, Arati said he has already paid Sh111 million of the Sh240 million to credible contractors.

Arati said he is not going to pay any funds for suspiciously done projects.

"The deal is done, there shall be no money for ghost projects, you can take that to the bank," the governor said.

Arati said he has already put in place mechanisms to address perennial infrastructure challenges.

"I assure my people that no road is going to remain impassable under my watch. We must fix the mess," he said.
