Nairobi Hospital unveils physical medicine centre

The state-of-art facility will offer physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation.

As the world marked World Physiotherapy Day, hospitals across the country participated in walks to sensitise the public on the importance of physical medicine.

In Nairobi, the walk saw key leading hospitals both public and private participate in the walk.

Among them was Kenyatta National Hospital and The Nairobi Hospital, which is one of the leading hospitals in East and Central Africa.

The walk started at Kenyatta National Hospital parking lot with a brief stop at The Nairobi Hospital which recently launched a world class Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre.

The state-of-art facility will enable Kenyans and clients from the wider Eastern Africa and Central Africa access quality rehabilitation or  physiotherapy treatment.

Nairobi Hospital Chief Operations Officer Victor Miseda said the facility values its clients and will always strive to provide world-class services through cutting-edge technology and top-notch doctors.

Miseda also noted that the newly launched Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre will revolutionise physical medicine in the country.

The hospital has also acquired an advanced MRI and digital mammogram machine for breast cancer screening.

The hospital also recently installed the first Biplane Cath Lab in East and Central Africa for cardio, neuro and vascular treatment services.

In his remarks to the media, Victor Miseda noted that brachytherapy, the most successful form of prostate cancer treatment, is also available at The Nairobi Hospital.

The hospital’s Director of Strategy and Innovation, Nicodemus Odongo  said with the change of lifestyle among Kenyans, the newly launched Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center will play a big role in the general well-being of their clients.

Samuel Odede, the Nairobi Hospital Medical Director while  commenting on the facility noted that "regardless of the surgery or procedure performed on a patient, the most important stage is to get the patient mobile again".

"On this World Physiotherapy Day, I applaud and celebrate the true heroes and heroines that make this stage possible," he said.

During the recently concluded World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary, Olympic 800 metres champion Emmanuel Korir performed dismally; he blamed the poor performance on a nagging injury.

Thanks to the new Nairobi Hospital Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre, Korir believes come the next world athletics championships, he will be in his best form as the injury would have been managed by physiotherapists at The Nairobi Hospital.
