Former Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat has termed the ongoing talks between the government and opposition as a waste of time.

Salat said the talks are not stipulated in the Constitution and the Opposition should stop bothering the government since they lost the last general election.

Speaking to the Star, Salat said the Azimio La Umoja team should accept that they lost the elections and start directing their energies on the campaign to face President William Ruto in 2027.

"The talks will not be a walk in the park, they still have four years to strategise and challenge Ruto's administration and not," he said.

He confessed that the opposition team 'slept on the job' despite having the support of the government of the day.

"If any court wants to know the truth concerning the last presidential elections results, I am more than ready to testify to say William Ruto won the elections in broad daylight," Salat said.

The former Bomet MP said the concerns the opposition leaders are raising cannot be addressed through demonstrations.

"You don't create a problem that is not constitutionally guaranteed and expect talks after that. That will not apply at all," Salat said.

He said for anything to happen in the country, it should be done within the law.

"And, the constitution does not have that midday that when you are defeated you start demonstrations and negotiations, that cannot happen," Salat said.

"I was on the Azimio La Umoja team during the elections and sincerely speaking the Ruto camp defeated us squarely."

He said Ruto's administration will only be gauged by its development record.

"To defeat Ruto in the next polls, will be a difficult task because he is a performer," Salat said.
