Confusion rocked Kimathi Primary School in Kamukunji Constituency over tussle of the land where the school is built.

A private developer put a notice in the property stating that the school is to be demolished so as to create space for a shopping mall and community halls.

The evacuation notice stated that the school is occupying the land illegally.

Bahati MCA Patrick Macharia said the land legally belongs to the school.

Speaking to The Star, Macharia said the cartel had put unofficial notice board at the gate of the school but he managed to demolish it. He said the man has been claiming the land is his but the land belongs to the Nairobi County.

"I was there last night and we demolished the notice he had put at the gate. You cannot come here and put a fake notice in a school. That is unacceptable," Macharia said.

Macharia added that they are going to arrest the cartel for the safety of the students and teachers."We shall not allow land grabbing especially belonging to schools. We are working to revoke the title deeds given illegally. The school was given the land by the County," Macharia said.

Buruburu Sub-County Police Commander Francis Kamau said they are looking into the matter.

''We are doing more investigations into the matter to find out who the rightful owner of the property is,'' Kamau said.

In a video seen by the Star on Thursday, residents of Kamukunji Constituency were seen pulling down the notice.

The notice by the private developer stated that they legally owned the section of the land where the school sits and they had official documents from the National Land Commission.

The school was established by the City Council in 1975 and has been run by the county government for many years.
