Muslim leaders have decried the move by Azimio to call for demonstrations on Friday.

The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims, (SUPKEM) National chairman Hassan Ole Naado on Monday said calling for protests on Friday is a bad idea as it would interfere with the worship among the Muslim faithful.

He noted that the Wednesday demonstrations took a hit on the worship sessions as very few people turned up due to the uncertainties adding that Fridays should be respected and exempted from any planned protests.

“We as Muslim leaders are saddened by the proposal that demonstrations be held on Fridays because Friday is a day to worship,” Naado said.

“Our experience from last Wednesday was that our mosques had very few people because they could not go to places of worship due to insecurity,” he added.

The opposition has called for street protests on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as it ramps up its resistance against President William Ruto's government.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Saturday issued a stern warning to the opposition over its plan to demonstrate for three days.

Speaking in Sondu, Kindiki highlighted that he knows many people were doubting his statements over the demos but the CS means what he says.

"Try Monkey Business on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday you will live to regret it for a very long time. I know there are people doubting me," he said.

Kindiki said his ministry will not allow any further losses as a result of the Azmio coalition-led protests.
