Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance through the National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi on Monday welcomed the High Court ruling on the legality of the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) positions.

This was shortly after the High Court ruled that 50 CASs positions are unconstitutional.

"We don't think that the intention of the framers of the constitution is to create positions of 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) to deputise 22 Cabinet Secretaries. The creation of the offices would come at a substantial cost to the public," the court determination read in part.

The 50 CASs were appointed by President William Ruto, to act as assistant ministers.

Court averred that there was no public participation before the creation of the 50 positions.

"We support the decision by the court to declare that the CAS positions are unconstitutional. Let those who were appointed to those positions pack and go home," Wandayi said.

His Nyando counterpart Jared Okello said it was worth celebrating the decision of the Judiciary.

"I am in a celebratory mood because the court has pronounced itself that we will not have CAS positions in Kenya," Okello said.

The Azimio leaders were speaking at a public rally at Asango in Ugunja constituency.
