Director of Criminal Investigations  Mohamed Amin on Thursday hosted Mozambique’s delegation at the DCI headquarters in Mazingira complex.

The delegation was led by Mozambique’s attorney general Dr Beatriz Buchili.

They visited the Directorate on a benchmarking mission, for insights on how the multi-agency framework in dealing with crime had succeeded in Kenya.

Amin noted that the success in the fight against terrorism and other transnational organized crimes was a result of embracing cooperation and collaboration between actors in the criminal justice sector, within the multi-agency framework.

"Initially, our agencies operated in silos and this would give undue advantage to criminal networks, that would exploit the existing gaps to evade justice," Amin said.

He added that good working relations between the country's security agencies and improved partnerships contributed to the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

Buchiliat said they will borrow ideas from the country on how Mozambique can fight and deal with terror threats.

Buchiliat thanked Amin for the existing collaboration mechanism that had seen the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit assist Mozambique in the investigation of terror-related cases.

"I appreciate the role played by the DCI in the fight against terrorism in the region and the significant efforts put in place by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit in the investigation of terror-related crimes," Buchiliat said.

She says that Southern African countries have been confronted by terror cases since 2017.

The Mozambican delegation including the country’s envoy to Kenya Ambassador Jeronimo Chivavi among other dignitaries is expected to visit the DCI National Forensic Laboratory and the ATPU headquarters.
