Security is tight at the Ngong' Racecourse in Nairobi ahead of the much-anticipated Jubilee National Delegates Congress convened by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Party members and supporters allied to the Uhuru faction trooped to the venue from 8 am in readiness for the NDC.

However, only invited delegates and guests were allowed to the venue of the meeting.

Those allowed in had to produce their national identity cards for cross-checking with the list of invited delegates and guests.

Journalists were also not spared as they were required to produce their work badges and a valid Media Council of Kenya card.

This is even as police assured the party that security would be provided at the event.

The meeting by Uhuru comes just days after Kanini Kega’s faction expelled vice chairperson David Murathe and secretary general Jeremiah Kioni.

Kega has maintained that there will be no NDC saying the party will notify members of such a meeting when it will be convening one.

"Some are saying there will be a meeting tomorrow (Monday) for the NDC. Let me clarify as the party's secretary general that there will be no NDC meeting on Monday," Kega said.

Uhuru announced a change of venue for the NDC, moving it to the Ngong’ Racecourse after he was locked out of the Bomas of Kenya.

“Notice is hereby given that the venue of the Jubilee NDC has been moved to Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi. All other details remain as in the notice issued on April 29, 2023,” Uhuru said in a notice published in local dailies on Saturday.

Kega’s camp, which has Nominated MP Sabina Chege among other leaders has since aligned itself with President William Ruto.

They have opposed Uhuru’s role, saying the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act stops a retired president not to hold office in a political party six months after his last day as president.
