John Muteti takes over as acting CEO at Nacada

Nacada has announced John Muteti as the acting Chief Officer.

The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse in a statement on Tuesday said the position is set to be filled competitively.

His appointment according to the statement took effect on May 15.

Muteti takes over from Victor Okioma who is proceeding on retirement as his five years term comes to an end.

“Muteti will be instrumental in steering the Authority’s mandate as he brings to the table a wealth of over thirty years’ experience from the academia, private and public sectors,” Nacada board chair Stephen Mairori said.

Muteti who is currently the Director, Research Policy and Planning at Nacada holds a Doctorate degree in Strategic Management from Nelson Mandela University, South Africa and a Master's degree in Economics and Social Studies from the University of Manchester, UK.

He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Social Studies from Victorian University, Manchester, a Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Bradford University, UK and a degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

Muteti in his acceptance speech has pledged to utilise the opportunity given to him to spearhead programmes in line with the authority’s strategic plan and guided by the board’s policy direction.

Nacada is a semi-autonomous state corporation under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination.

The Authority works with schools, workplaces, colleges, universities, technical institutions, county governments, ministries, parastatals, faith-based institutions, CBOs, NGOs, self-help groups as well as individuals interested in a society free from alcohol and drug abuse.
