All eyes are on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta today as Jubilee’s disciplinary committee prepares to deliver its verdict on a decision to oust him as the party leader.

Uhuru had been given until today to appear before the committee but there were clear indications he was likely to snub it giving the committee a leeway to proceed and give its verdict.

Jubilee vice chair David Murathe has already given an indication that Uhuru will not appear before the disciplinary committee even maintaining the NDC will proceed as planned.

“The final arbiter in this matter is the delegates…ORPP could as well proceed and assist the other team to achieve their goal. If they want to remove us from office let them come up with their proposal to the NDC and if it passes we shall go, if it fails they must quit,” Murathe said.

In a letter from nominated MP Sabina Chege, Uhuru has been given until today to appear before the disciplinary committee to respond to a case on alleged misconduct.

The Sabina faction also wrote to the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu seeking to ratify her as the genuine party leader.

"You are hereby required to file your response, together with any supporting documentation, with the committee within two days of this notification,” the letter reads in part.

Sabina also wants Uhuru to respond to resolutions of a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting that ousted him from his seat as party leader.

In a separate letter from the registrar, Uhuru is required to file a response to a decision seeking to resolve the leadership wrangles currently rocking the party.

Nderitu is set to decide whether the group led by Sabina was justified in ousting Uhuru from the position and on the planned May 22-23 national delegates’ conference (NDC) set to be held at Bomas.

Uhuru is being accused of convening the meeting 'illegally' despite having been kicked out as the party leader.

Sabina took over from him in the changes as Kanini assumed that of secretary general also being claimed by Jeremiah Kioni.

“The office is in the process of evaluating the documents and the substance of the resolutions therein against the political parties Act 2021, and the Jubilee party Constitution,” the registrar said in a letter dated May 8.

“In light of the above, the documents pertaining to the meeting are hereby forwarded for your information, response and other action. You are expected to submit your response within seven days of the date herein.”
