On the radar: Schools reopen amid delayed salaries of JSS tutors

This week, primary and secondary schools will resume for the longest term in the 2023 academic calendar.

The students who were on a two-week holiday will begin the 14-week second term on Monday.

According to the updated school calendar, the students will break on August 11.

"From June 29 to July 2 the students will be on half-term break," the circular reads.

The reopening comes amid delayed salaries of Junior Secondary School teachers.

However, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu says they will be paid this month.

Death in Kamukunji area 

A Rwandandese nationality has been found dead at a bus stop in  Kamukunji area.

The lifeless body of Dancila Niharabimana was found while seated at the waiting bay with a piece of luggage next to it.

Police removed the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe on the cause of death.

UDA recruitment 

President William Ruto's party UDA will from Monday resume recruitment of new members on Raila Odinga's  Nyanza turf. 

In March, the party led by secretary general Cleophas Malala, recruited members in Kisumu and its environs.

A woman is to be charged with eating goat meat, and drinks amounting to Sh35,009 and failing to pay at the Prisons canteen.

She will also be charged with creating disturbances by spitting and smearing blood on people and damaging glasses
