Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli has told Azimio leader Raila Odinga his new wave of streets protests will not yield his desired wishes.

Atwoli, while addressing Labour Day celebrations in Uhuru Gardens on Monday, said Raila will not succeed in ejecting President William Ruto from office using demonstrations.

“Getting Ruto out of office is a dream. Let us not dwell with an impossibility that will not help the country,” he stated.

The COTU boss further asked the President to appoint Raila to a position which will see him contribute to the development of the country and the continent as a whole.

Atwoli, a one-time ally of Raila, advised workers to shun Tuesday’s planned demos called by the Opposition leader.

“I want to ask workers not to go to the demonstrations. You will be sacked by your employers for absconding duty and it will be very difficult to defend someone who did not go to work because they went to maandamano,” he stated.

Though he has supported Raila over time, Atwoli said he was no longer in a position to advise him now.

“Someone please advise him that the demonstrations will not yield anything. What makes him think that maadamano will change the status quo? There are things that are irreversible and when they happen, you accept it,” he said.

Atwoli said Ruto floored Raila in the election yet Azimio had all it needed to beat Kenya Kwanza at its disposal to win the poll.

“We had power. We had the money and all resources but Ruto managed to outsmart us,” he explained.
